Supermarkets registered their best sales in August with the Olympic Games as the engine of consumption.
Supermarkets recorded their best performances of the year in August 2012.
Nielsen announced that supermarket sales increased 3.5% compared to the same period in 2011. Sales volume increased by 1.7% year on year, driven by products such as soft drinks, snacks and sweets.
The best
performance comes to Waitrose, which has increased its sales by 12% between July 27 and August 18.
These good figures result from the impact of the Olympic Games and good weather, according to the Nielsen Institute. They follow 18 months of declining sales.
