Mango production could fall by 30%

The Philippines is the 6th largest producer of mangoes in the world after China, Pakistan, Brazil, Mexico and India. The production of the Philippines is about 3.5% of world production of mangoes.
Early rains in the flowering phase, and the threat of La Niña could reduce the production of mangoes by a third.
If rains do not fall before the month of April, Plant Industry estimates that production will decline to 530,000 tons while the estimate was 800,000 tons.
The Philippine mangoes are exported mainly to Asia (China, Japan, Hong Kong), the United States and Australia. Their new markets includes the Netherlands, South Korea, the Middle East and Canada.
