IATA (International Air Transport Association) has published its data on world air freight markets, which shows that freight traffic rebounded in 2023. IATA points out that the 4th quarter of 2023 performed particularly well despite economic uncertainties.
According to IATA data, global demand measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTK) was -1.9% lower than in 2022 and -3.6% lower than in 2019.
Although still negative, this result is encouraging and seems to demonstrate that the downward spiral (-8% in 2022 compared with 2021) recorded since COVID is slowing down.
In 2023, capacity, measured in ACTK/available cargo tonne-kilometres, was +11.3% compared with 2022 and +2.5% compared with 2019 (before COVID).
