The organic market in France grew by 20% in H1 2016.
The market for organic products recorded an increase of around 20% in H1 2016 compared to the same period in 2015. At the end of the year, it is expected to reach a turnover of 6.9 billion (€ 1 billion compared to 2015).
Organic farming recorded an impressive rate of consumers. According to the study from Agence BIO / CSA recently published, 9 of 10 (89%) people now consumes organic, at least occasionally, while they were still only 54% in 2003. 65% use it regularly even, that is to say at least once a month, against 37% in 2003.
Sales of products from organic agriculture are particularly developed in H1 2016, confirming the record growth (+ 14.7%) observed in 2015. Large areas have seen a growth in organic food sales near 18% compared to the same period of 2015 (+ 11% in 2015 vs 2014). In the dedicated circuit organic sales increase was 25% in H1 2016. All channels combined market growth is estimated at about 20% higher in H1 2016 compared to H1 2015.
Given this high potential market, organic farmers are becoming more numerous. On June 30, 2016, the number of French producers engaged in bio amounted to almost 31 880. By the end of the year, the land devoted to organic production method will exceed the 1.5 million hectares, or more than 5.8% of the agricultural area (UAA).
