Dutch eco-friendly bio-films that bring financial attractiveness
Consumers are buying more and more complete product solutions which offer a convenient, and tasty way to eat healthily. Aspects such as freshness, shelf-life, taste and presentation demand innovative solutions both from the product and the packaging.
Van der Windt, Dutch certificated supplier of high-quality flexible packaging materials for the food processing industry, recently presented 4 new types of bio-film at Fruit Logistica 2019 in Berlin.
Leo van der Meer, Sales convenience food packaging manager at Van der Windt, explains us: “Among new bio-films company is proud to present two films that were launched in 2018 as “Winscribe” film and Home compostable film, as well as r-PET film and Bio-PP film that have just been launched in 2019.”
Using bio-films could bring financial attractiveness from two sides. From one side, using bio-film in the Netherlands, for example, the packaging tax on biodegradable materials is only 2 cent per kilo compared with the 39 cents per kilo levied on non-biodegradable packaging.
From the other side, use of bio-films such as ‘Winscribe’ bring to company general saves on packaging and is exceptionally consumer-friendly. Many consumers give preference to packaging that can be resealed, but resealing a tray with a topseal film is virtually impossible. Van der Windt has found the solution: laser-scribing a two-layer PET film laminate in such a way that a resealable topseal is created. ‘Winscribe’ film offers solutions that have until now been impossible – thin, clear laminates (printed or unprinted) of mono or multi-layer material that are resealable on both polypropylene and polyester containers. “Winscribe” film can be opened and reclosed up to 20 times without losing adherence.
Additionally to mentioned advantages bio-films produced by Van der Windt are recycled, namely r-PET film is 50% recycled and ‘Winscribe’ film is 100% recycled. In a such way use of bio-film follows concept of Corporate Social Responsibility.
