From January to October 2023, Spain exported a significant amount of agricultural products outside of Europe. However, compared to the same period of the previous year, decreases were recorded in this category.
According to data from the Department of Customs and Excise, shipments of garlic topped the list with 33,806 tonnes shipped, closely followed by oranges with 33,772 tonnes, pears with 30,071 tonnes and apples with 29,886 tonnes. In addition, plums and onions also stood out in sales, reaching volumes of 28,210 and 10,785 tons, respectively.
However, it is evident that there was a decline in all categories during this period compared to the same months in 2022. Exports of garlic decreased by 10%, exports of oranges plummeted by 54%, exports of pears decreased by 38% and those of apples experienced a reduction of 21%.
In general terms, Spanish exports of fresh fruits and vegetables outside Europe totaled 262,074 tons from January to October 2023, marking a decrease of 28% compared to the same period in 2022. These products generated a value of 388.5 million euros , reflecting a drop of 13%.
Looking at the full year of 2022, Spain exported a total of 452,594 tons outside Europe, with the same products mentioned above being the most in demand. Oranges topped the list with 90,792 tons, followed by pears with 60,010 tons, apples with 50,026 tons, garlic with 46,969 tons and onions with 38,667 tons.
