Decorative objects and lanterns, pumpkins are omnipresent for Halloween and are also found on the tables with various dishes dedicated to the vegetable king of the party: soups, gratins, pies, biscuits, jams, cakes, and for bigger 'Pumpkin Ales', pumpkin beers.
Native to Central America, pumpkin was brought back to Europe in the 16th century by Spanish expeditions. This vegetable was quickly adopted for its exceptional conservation conditions.
Now pumpkins, are grown all over the world. According to FAO data, global production of pumpkins totaled 25.2 million tonnes in 2014. The world's leading producer is China with 29% of total production, the second largest in India with 19.8%, the third largest in the world Russia with 4.89%. The United States ranks fifth with 3.42% of world production.
