According to the Agricultural Outlook 2021-2030 report, published by the FAO, by 2030 avocado is expected to become the most traded tropical fruit with an export volume of 3.9 million tonnes, surpassing both pineapples and mangoes in terms of quantity.
Production
The avocado has experienced the most rapid growth in its production in recent years. By 2030, world avocado production is expected to reach 12 million tonnes, more than 3 times its 2010 level.
Currently the top 10 producing countries represent nearly 80% of world production, but new cultivation areas are appearing. About 74% of avocado production will continue to come from Latin America and the Caribbean, under favorable growing conditions.
The production of Mexico, the world's largest producer and exporter, is expected to increase by 5.2% per year over the next 10 years. Despite competition from emerging exporters, Mexico is expected to continue increasing its share of world exports, reaching 63% in 2030.
