Back to normal for European vegetable imports
MD
Following the agreement signed Wednesday, EU exports of fresh vegetables to Russia will, for a limited time, be accompanied by a health certificate.
The European Union will provide the Russian authorities with "certificates of laboratory monitoring and verification" certifying that the vegetables do not carry the strain of the deadly bacteria. This system will be applied until the 10th day following the last human case linked to E.coli 104 reported by the European Union.
Immediate resumption of exports from Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland has already taken place with a system of controls and certificates.
The EU exports 1.1 million tons of vegetables to Russia annually worth 600 million euros, according to the European Commission.
