ASTRA's automated pineapple peeler achieves a reported 53% yield after coring, compared with around 40% for conventional cylindrical cutters.
Japanese machinery manufacturer ASTRA Inc. has introduced the FAP-3000, an automated pineapple peeling and coring machine designed for high-volume fruit processing facilities. The equipment can handle approximately 450 pineapples per hour while reducing fruit losses during preparation.
Higher yield with less waste
According to ASTRA, conventional cylindrical cutting machines typically recover around 40% of the fruit, while the FAP-3000 achieves a yield of approximately 53% after coring.
The machine uses a 32 mm diameter coring system that holds the pineapple from both ends for greater precision. Operators can also disable the coring function when required.
Another feature is automatic adjustment of peeling depth according to fruit size, allowing pineapples of different dimensions to be processed continuously without prior sorting.
The system combines peeling, coring and discharge in a single automated process. An optional attachment cuts the prepared fruit into uniform wedges, reducing additional manual handling before packaging or further processing.
Measuring 1,250 × 550 × 1,400 mm and weighing approximately 110 kg, the FAP-3000 operates on AC100–240V power and carries NSF and CE certifications, according to the manufacturer.
