Costa Rica's agricultural exports to Europe reached $1.289 billion between January and August 2026, up 9% from the same period last year, according to the country's Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER).
Pineapples, bananas, cassava and watermelons were among the products contributing to the increase.
68 companies participate in Fruit Attraction
To expand its European market presence, Costa Rica brought 68 agricultural companies to Fruit Attraction 2026 in Madrid, held October 6–8.
Of these, 32 exhibited under the essential COSTA RICA national brand, while another 36 joined a trade mission to establish contacts with importers, distributors and retail buyers.
The delegation offered pineapples, bananas, melons, watermelons, papayas, coconuts, plantains, chayote and pumpkins, along with cassava, sweet potatoes, yams, taro and other root crops. Logistics service providers also participated.
According to PROCOMER General Manager Laura López, expanding buyer networks and incorporating technology and value-added products are priorities for maintaining the sector's competitiveness.
Costa Rica is also promoting bananas, pineapples and cassava through its The Natural Choice campaign in the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain.
Of the participating companies, 30 operate outside Costa Rica's Greater Metropolitan Area and six are led by women.
