Rio Grande do Sul accounted for approximately 61% of Brazil's apple shipments to Europe.
Brazilian apple exports to Europe have increased sharply in 2026, supported by a larger harvest and improved trade conditions.
According to figures published by ABRAFRUTAS, Brazil exported 14,940 tonnes of apples to Europe through August 2026, compared with 7,300 tonnes during the same period last year. Export revenue rose 111% to $15.83 million.
Rio Grande do Sul leads exports
Rio Grande do Sul accounted for 9,161 tonnes, or approximately 61% of Brazil's European shipments. Exports from the state to the European Union reached 7,460 tonnes, generating $7.66 million. Both volume and revenue increased by 70%.
Rafael de Oliveira, vice-president of commercialisation at the Rio Grande do Sul Apple Producers Association (AGAPOMI), attributed the growth mainly to the recovery of production following four years of smaller harvests. He also cited the removal of import duties averaging 10% under the EU–Mercosur agreement.
Outlook for 2027
Brazilian exporters expect further growth next season, supported by lower European production of Gala apples. The industry is considering doubling shipments, although rainfall in October and November will influence the upcoming harvest.
