Melon overtakes pineapple as the fastest-growing fruit

In Britain, melon is becoming increasingly popular, with a 13% increase in demand, according to officials from the supermarket chain Tesco. The melon dethrones the pineapple as the fastest growing fruits in terms of sales.

 

 

Traditionally in the country sales of melons increased in summer, then weakened the rest of the year. But since last summer, sales have continued to grow.

 

 

 

According to Tesco officials, this performance can be explained by the fact that consumers now consider melons, as well as pineapples, as good-value healthy desserts that can help children eat more fruits.

 

 

 

Tesco offers a dozen varieties of melons but it is the Yellow Honeydew variety is the most requested, accounting for one third of total sales in the United Kingdom.
