Exports of avocados generate USD 2.5 billion

Mexico is the only country that can export all year round. Mexican avocados represent 50% of total world exports.
APEAM estimates that exports of avocados represent an economic impact of about US $ 2.5 billion for Mexico, according to APEAM (Asociación de Productores y Empacadores Exportadores de Aguacate de México).
Mexico is the only country in the world that can supply the market and export all year round. The season runs from the 1st of July to the 30th of June and for the 2016-17 season, where final figures are not yet known, exports are estimated at around 740 000 tons. This represents nearly $ 2.5 billion for Mexico.
The previous season saw the export of 943,621 tons of avocados to North America, Europe, Central America and Asia. In total 30 countries. Mexican avocados represent 80% of avocado consumed in the United States.
