La Libertad demonstrates a remarkable export dynamism, especially in the agricultural sector.
Between January and November 2024, exports from La Libertad reached $5.239 billion, a growth of 18.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. This positioned La Libertad as the fourth most important exporting region in Peru, behind Ica, Arequipa and Ancash, excluding Lima.
According to Francisco Huerta Benites, dean of the Association of Economists of La Libertad, the main products exported included blueberries ($1.15 billion, +62.2%) and avocados ($358 million, +21.2%).
Foreign trade through the port of Salaverry totaled $ 2,612 million in the same period, growing by 8.4% year-on-year. Exports from this port amounted to $2,076 million, driven by a 64% increase in blueberry shipments and, to a lesser extent, by asparagus. On the other hand, imports through Salaverry reached $536 million, down 5.1%.
