The lack of rainfall and high temperatures affect the Andalusian fields harvested with broccoli, cauliflower, onion, carrot, and artichoke.
Of the 1,550 hectares planned to be planted to date, only approximately 200 remain among all these crops in the Bajo Guadalquivir, according to the Spanish Coordinator of Farmers and Livestock Breeders (COAG).
Initially, they planned to have planted 1,200 hectares of broccoli and cauliflower, 200 of artichokes and onions, and 150 of carrots. Among those 200 hectares left, 50 hectares were abandoned because they have become "a desert".
Above all, the crops are of very low quality and are useless for the industry or the market, which means "total losses", informs COAG.
