Mango production in Escuinapa decreases due to water shortage

Mango production in Escuinapa (Mexico) has fallen by 50% this season, affected by the lack of water in the region. This situation has also caused a drop in mango prices.

 

According to local media, the season started late due to aborted flowering, resulting in fruit unsuitable for export. Some orchards produced only 20% to 60% of their capacity due to lack of water and climatic changes.

 

Mango prices have fallen. Ataulfo mango dropped from 15 to 10 pesos per unit, and other varieties such as Tomy and Haden dropped from 5 to 1.50-2 pesos. The Kent variety also dropped from 6 to 3 pesos.

 

They point out that price fluctuation is common, with high prices at the beginning of the season falling later. The combination of lower production and low prices poses a challenge for mango growers in Escuinapa.
