Income from fruit and veg exports rose by 7.4% in 2021

The export of fresh fruit and vegetables by Spain in 2021 increased by 2.6% in volume and 7.4% in value, compared to 2020. It is a total of 13.4 million tons and 15.680 million euros, according to data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes.
Vegetable exports in 2021 experienced a year-on-year increase of 1.6% in volume, and 9% in value, totaling 5.7 million tons and 6.576 million euros.
Pepper supplies totaled 853,582 tons (+1%) and 1,270 million euros (+9.5%), those of lettuce 811,703 tons (+6%) and 827 million euros (+18%) and tomato, 662,497 tons (-6%) and 976 million euros (+4%).
Fruit exports increased by 3% in volume and 6% in value, totaling 7.6 million tons and 9,104 million euros.
Strawberry supplies totaled 721 million euros (+23%), peaches 442 million euros (+11%), nectarines 492 million euros (+9%) and apples 90 million euros ( -8%).
Producing regions
Andalusia remained the first exporting region, with 4.5 million tons, (+1% compared to 2020) and placements for 6,052 million euros (+7%), followed by the Valencian Community, with 3.9 million tons (+1% ) and 4,253 million euros (+7%), Murcia, with 2.7 million tons (+5%) and 2,992 million euros (+5%) and Catalonia, with 1 million tons (+5%) and 1,120 million euros (+13%).
Destination markets
Exports to the EU totaled 11.1 million tons (+4%) and 12,534 million euros (+8%).
Exports to the United Kingdom totaled 1.5 million tons (-2%) and 2,104 million euros (+11).
Exports to countries outside Europe fell 10% in volume and totaled 439,798 tons and 520 million euros (-9%).
The import of fresh fruit and vegetables in 2021 increased by 5.5% in volume and 4.5% in value, reaching 3.6 million tons and 3,259 million euros.
Vegetable imports reached 1.5 million tons (+1%) and 887 million euros (-1%) and fruit imports reached 2 million tons (+9%) and 2,372 million euros (+6.7%).
