Ethylene is on the verge of being banned

Ethylene, the substance used for artificial fruit ripening.

The government of the state of Himachal Pradesh, India's leading producer of apples, is studying legislation to ban the sale and use of ethylene.

The authorities have expressed their concern regarding the increase of the use of chemicals to ripen artificially fruits. The normal use, in recommended dosage, is not harmful. It is the excessive use that can be prejudicial to both human health and the health of trees. Some producers have used it disproportionately.

Ethylene is of natural origin, it is produced with maturation of some fruit . Ethylene is responsible for changes in color, texture, softening and other processes of maturation.
