From January 27 to 31, the district of Chilete in the province of Contumazá (Peru) will be the epicenter of the XXII Regional Fruit Fair, where fruit growers from the Jequetepeque basin will participate. This basin covers the provinces of San Miguel, Cajamarca, San Pablo and Contumazá.
The fruit fair has been held since 1995. The main purpose of this event is to boost the economy of fruit growers, opening new market opportunities by promoting the various products grown in the basin, such as mango, grapes, avocado, cherimoya, aguaymanto, orange, banana, strawberry, passion fruit, blueberry, passion fruit, among others.
The event will have 80 stands from different companies, not only fruit, but also agricultural and livestock companies, among others.
Throughout the three days of the fair, a technical talk focused on risk management and climate change in the agricultural sector will be held, as well as a demonstration session on grafting in fruit trees. In addition, activities will be carried out such as a business conference, a gastronomic contest with tasting of dishes and drinks made from fruits, a typical band contest, a sporting event and a lively fraternity dance.
The fruit fair has been held since 1995, the mayor stressed the importance of resuming this activity to highlight the relevance of this event for farmers in the region. He highlighted that Chilete, due to its strategic location, has been a central point to house producers from the provinces of San Miguel, San Pablo, Contumazá and Cajamarca, emphasizing the need to create producer associations in the area.
