Expansion continues for Australian table grape production

In Australia over the past 10 years, table grape production has increased by 142% thanks to the continued increase in plantings. For the 2020/21 campaign, the volume produced will be 15,000 tonnes higher than the previous season.
Australian table grape production for the 2020/21 marketing year is expected to reach a record 240,000 tonnes, up by 15,000 tonnes from the previous season. This is due to the increase in vines coming into production, the sector estimates that new plantings have grown by around 20% per year in recent years.
Almost all of this additional volume planned for this season is expected to be exported. Exports for the 2019/20 marketing year reached a record 152,500 tonnes (146,000 tonnes the previous year), due to stronger exports to China (+ 12%) and other countries in Asia (South Korea + 152% and Philippines + 29%), despite some disruptions in maritime transport linked to COVID-19.
