Today, Mexico is consolidated as the second-largest raspberry producer in the world, only behind Russia.
The production of this berry increased in Mexico up to 128 times in the last 20 years and spread throughout the season, according to the Latinometrics consultancy.
Growers in the states of Baja California, Michoacán and Jalisco took advantage of the country's climatic conditions to harvest raspberries in autumn, spring and summer, and can schedule their harvests for winter, when prices reach their peak.
The source indicates that in addition to the seasonal advantage, the border with the United States and low production costs are key factors that led to the development of this industry in Mexico.
According to the National Association of Berry Exporters (Aneberries), the total berry market in Mexico this year would reach 584,000 tons, generating income of $3,000 million. In this way, raspberries will become the third most exported food from Mexico, after beer and avocados.
