Peru announces an increase in mango production of 268.8 %.
The Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture has announced that production of mangoes has increased by 268.8% in the first ten months of 2010.
The northern regions of Piura and Lambayeque contributed about 85% of total production. Between January and October 2010, Piura has produced 222,000 tons, and of 43,000 tons for Lambayeque .
If this trend continues, production this year could beat the record set in 2009. Peruvian production includes many varieties such as Kent, Haden and Tommy Atkins.
Main buyers of mangoes from Peru are the U.S., followed by the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Canada.
