Increase by 11% of citrus exports

Peru increased by +11% its citrus exports and expects to do even better in 2014.

Satisfaction for the professionals of the sector, citrus exports rose.

ProCitrus, the organization of producers, announced that a total of 97,450 tons was exported in mid-September. An increase of +11% compared to the last year.

Tangerines constituted 56% of these exports, 31% tangelos, oranges 10% and lemons and grapefruit  3%. Regarding the destinations, the UK is the main destination with 33% of total exports, followed by the Netherlands with 23%, the U.S. with 20% and Canada with 12%.

For the 2014 season, the harvest will be higher and exports will continue to rise. Over the past four years the plantations were numerous and multiple orchards will go into production.
