Good start to the year for Peruvian agriculture, although some crops are falling

The potato crop showed a growth of 9.02%, driven by normal or above average rainfall and adequate temperatures for its development.
In January 2025, Peru's agricultural production grew by 3.10%, driven by favorable weather conditions in several regions, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). However, some key crops suffered declines due to adverse weather factors.
Among the products with the highest growth was mango, which reached 196 thousand tons, registering an increase of 532.22%. There were also increases in the production of grapes, potatoes, strawberries, onions, starchy corn, asparagus and tomatoes. This increase is attributed to a larger planted area and favorable weather in some areas of the country.
The potato crop grew by 9.02%, driven by normal or above-average rainfall and adequate temperatures for its development. In Huánuco and Ayacucho, production increased significantly, while in regions such as La Libertad, Lima, Cajamarca and Junín, declines were reported.
On the other hand, avocado, mandarin, chili, pumpkin, apple, watermelon, banana and cassava experienced declines.
