Panama's Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI) highlighted the international success of the national pineapple, famous for its sweet flavor.
Recognized as “Flavor of the Year 2023”, this fruit is grown mostly in La Chorrera, West Panama, due to its favorable climate, with a perfect balance between sun and rain.
The MD2 variety, known as Golden Sweet, is preferred in the international market for its golden peel, sweetness, high vitamin C content and low acidity. It is produced in provinces such as Herrera, Los Santos, Veraguas, Cocle and Chiriqui.

The country's tropical climate, with temperatures between 22 and 32 degrees and high humidity, is ideal for its cultivation. This makes Panamanian pineapple one of the most outstanding worldwide.
According to the MICI, in 2024, 4.70 thousand tons were exported, with Spain being the main buyer with 2.4 thousand tons. In 2023, exports reached 12.68 thousand tons.
