The Fundecitrus Foundation has released the updated orange crop estimate for the 2024-2025 season in the citrus belt of São Paulo and west-southwest Minas Gerais. According to the report, a total production of 223.14 million orange boxes is expected, reflecting an increase of 3.4% compared to the initial estimate made in September 2024.
Details by variety
The report highlights changes in production projections by orange type:
Hamlin, Westin and Rubi: Production is forecast at 37.63 million boxes, an increase of 3.2 %.
Other early varieties: Estimated at 15.40 million boxes, up 3.4 %.
Pera Rio: Projection adjusted to 72.51 million boxes, marking a significant increase of 14.3 %.
Valencia and Valencia Folha Murcha: Expected production is 71.87 million boxes, with a slight decrease of 3.4 %.
Natal: Estimates 25.73 million boxes, showing a 3.3 % reduction.
Determining factors
The upward adjustment in the total production projection is due to favorable weather conditions and improvements in the management of pests and diseases affecting the crops. However, some varieties such as Valencia and Natal show a slight drop in their estimates, possibly attributable to crop-specific factors.
Upcoming updates
Fundecitrus will continue to monitor crop developments and is scheduled to release a new update on February 10, 2025. The final report for the season is scheduled for April 10, 2025.
