Strong forecasts drive Peru's table grape season.
Peru launched its new table grape season with a ceremonial event at CITE Agroindustrial Ica, gathering key players from the industry. Leyhla Rebaza from Provid announced an initial forecast of 71 million boxes for the 2024-2025 season, with updates to be made as the season progresses.
This season opens doors to new markets, including Ecuador and, more recently, Japan, where lessons learned from last year are expected to enhance performance. While the northern region faces some early logistical issues with container availability, efforts are underway to streamline inspections and container scheduling to resolve these challenges.
Christian Quiroz, executive director of Senasa Ica, highlighted that Peru exported 291,160 tons of table grapes in 2024, with the Ica region accounting for 21,080 shipments from its 10,515 hectares of certified production. The U.S. led as the top destination with 52.58% of exports, followed by China, Mexico, and the Netherlands.
Quiroz is optimistic about this season, anticipating that favorable conditions will bring even stronger results than the previous year.
