How organic products exoports are advancing in Peru

Junín and Lima stand out as leaders in organic exports.
Between January and September 2024, Peruvian exports of organic products reached $ 542 million, representing an increase of 27% over the $ 426.6 million in the same period of 2023. This was reported by the Global Economy and Business Research Center of the Exporters Association (CIEN-ADEX).
The fresh category led exports with $ 223.5 million (41.2% of the total), followed by grains with $ 192.1 million, frozen with $ 28.7 million, powdered with $ 21 million, and dehydrated with $ 9.7 million.
Among the most outstanding products during the first nine months of 2024 were:
Banana: $ 90.4 million (16.7%);
Ginger: $ 64.7 million (11.9%);
Quinoa (grain): $ 50.4 million (9.3%);
Fresh blueberries: $ 39.3 million (7.3%);
Fresh avocados: $ 19.3 million (3.6%);
Fresh mangos: $ 12.3 million (2.3%).
The most dynamic products in the period were limes, with a growth of 782.3%, and oranges, with 484.3%.
Destination markets
Peruvian organic fruits and vegetables reached 75 markets. The United States led purchases with $ 210.8 million (+16.1%), followed by: Netherlands: $ 109.4 million; Italy: $ 36.5 million; Belgium: $ 30.6 million; Canada: $ 30.5 million.
By region, North America accounted for 45.1% of the total with $244.6 million, while Europe accumulated $253.9 million (43.6%).
Producing regions
Junin was the leading region with $ 117.6 million, mainly driven by ginger and fresh products, while Lima recorded $ 94.7 million, standing out for its supply of quinoa and fresh fruits.
Gabriel Arrieta Padilla, head of Economic Studies at CIEN-ADEX, pointed out that the growing global demand for pesticide-free products opens up great opportunities. He stressed the importance of maintaining rigorous controls to comply with international standards and position Peru as a reliable supplier in the most demanding markets.
