The strawberry season in Huelva is coming to a close with higher average prices than in previous years. It should be noted that the region contributes more than 90% of the Spanish production of this fruit.
The latest report from the Andalusian Regional Government's Price Observatory points out that so far, more than 93% of the expected volume for the season has been marketed. Currently, the average price of strawberries on the local market is 1.60 euros per kilo, which shows an increase compared to the 1.43 and 1.15 euros per kilo of previous seasons.
On the international market, strawberries from Huelva have seen significant increases, with increases of more than 18% in France and 10% in Germany. As far as other red fruits from the region are concerned, such as raspberries and blueberries, both are at the peak of their commercialisation. However, while the price of blueberries remains stable, raspberries have experienced notable drops in value.
For the 2023/2024 crop cycle, the total area dedicated to red fruits in Huelva has reached 11,243 hectares, which represents a decrease of 4.75% compared to the previous year. In detail, the area under strawberry cultivation has decreased by 3.1%, to 6,100 hectares. On the other hand, blueberry cultivation has shown a slight growth of 0.5%, reaching 3,610 hectares, while the area devoted to raspberry has decreased by 21% to 1,380 hectares.
