Wal-Mart wants to increase the amount of local products

The first worldwide distributor wants to strengthen local products on its shops and reduce waste.

Wal-Mart, the giant U.S.  No. 1 retailer in the world wants to accelerate its efforts in sustainable development.

 

 This will mean strong support of sustainable agriculture. Wal-Mart plans to multiply by 3 the amount of products from small farmers by 2015. In United States, Wal-Mart wants to increase the amount of local products to 10%.

 

The distributor also plans to invest over 1 billion dollars in the supply chain of perishable products worldwide. With the objective to reduce the waste of food by 15% in its stores in emerging markets and 10% in the United States and other developed markets.
