The move comes as Peru’s mango exports continue to expand.
Peru has announced a new national quality standard for fresh mangoes, aimed at strengthening export positioning and ensuring more consistent fruit specifications across supply chains.
The regulation — NTP 011.010:2025 “Mango. Mango fresco. Requisitos” — was approved by the Instituto Nacional de Calidad (INACAL), the technical standards body under the Ministry of Production. It establishes minimum quality parameters for mangoes marketed in fresh form, covering commercial varieties of Mangifera indica L. while excluding fruit destined for industrial processing.
The standard requires fruit to be intact, healthy, and free from rot, pests, foreign odours, or visible contamination. It also sets expectations on external appearance, including natural skin brightness, absence of dehydration, and no damage linked to extreme temperatures. Packaging is likewise regulated, with rules on hygiene, ventilation, strength, and handling to protect fruit condition through transport and storage.
The move comes as Peru’s mango exports continue to expand. During the 2024-2025 campaign, overseas shipments exceeded 286,000 tonnes, up 13% year on year, according to industry data. Fruit reached 38 international markets, led by the United States (40%), followed by the Netherlands (31%), Spain (6%), and Canada (5%).
