335,440 tons of italian kiwifruit exported in 2008-2009
From now on Italian kiwifruit exported to Australia can undergo refrigerated sanitation treatment (cool treatment) not only in Italy’s processing facilities but also during the sea route to Australia.
A new target reached to expand Italian kiwifruit exports worldwide thanks to the joint work of the Ferrara-based Fresh Produce Service Centre CSO in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture that aim to break down phytosanitary barriers still present in many countries.
Italy’s exports of kiwifruit amounted 335,440 tons in 2008-2009, of which more than 70% to Europe. The remaining share of exports is directed towards all the continents including Africa and Oceania.
To date, Italy exports to Australia 3,815 tons of kiwifruit. Over the past 5 years a steady increase was registered in such a profitable market characterized by high consumption of this fruit all year round.
“This new opportunity concretely allows to anticipate the commercialization in this country of about 30 days, with a positive impact on exported volumes”, stresses CSO president Paolo Bruni who proved to be satisfied with the target achieved through constant efforts in recent years.
