Disney joins Michelle Obama in the battle against childhood obesity and will only broadcast advertisements for healthy foods.
The Walt Disney Company is leading by example by removing commercials for foods high in calories, rich in sugar, fat and salt.
On all channels (Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, Radio Disney and Disney websites) the company will only broadcast commercials for healthy food and will promote balanced meals in the parks.
These new guidelines will be implemented by 2015. This year Disney will launch a "label Mickey
" to signal balanced meals on Disney licensed products, on recipes published on Disney.com and Family.com, and on the menus of American parks.
The head of the Walt Disney Company, Robert A. Iger presented the initiatives in the presence of Michelle Obama who is fighting against childhood obesity. Obesity is a major public health issue in the U.S., where 1 in 3 adults and 1 child in five is obese.
