Raspberry production could increase
FJ
The first producer and exporter of raspberries could still increase its production.
Raspberry, nicknamed "red gold" of Serbia, could see production increase. Its cultivation is concentrated in the western part of the country, an area where the conditions are ideal according to the Serbian scientists and technicians, and high yields. Serbia is the first world producer of raspberries (more than 86,000 tons) and the first exporter (65 000 tons, the Chile second in export 35 000 tons). Approximately 90% of the volume product is sold frozen, the rest as fresh fruit or for processing.
Experts hope that the country increases its production thanks to new varieties to extend the season and greenhouse cultivation. More sophisticated logistics structures also would permit to sell raspberries as fresh fruit rather than frozen. Prices vary from 1 (frozen product) to 3 (fresh product).
