Argentine blueberry market growing as Chile steps up promotion

Argentina’s blueberry sector has backed Chile’s consumer campaign, calling it a positive step for expanding demand.
Federico Bayá, secretary of the Argentinean Blueberry Committee (ABC), has publicly welcomed promotional efforts by Chile’s blueberry industry to strengthen consumption of the fruit in Argentina. Bayá highlighted that Chilean campaigns complement the work Argentine producers have carried out under their own “Mejor con Arándanos” initiatives, which he says have helped lift local demand over the past decade.
Bayá stressed that consistent quality, achieved by offering the same calibre of fruit domestically as is sold for export, was pivotal in changing consumer habits in Argentina, where blueberries were once little known. He noted that the Argentine market now accounts for significant volume alongside exports, though it remains “immature” and volatile on price swings when supply shifts.
Looking ahead, Bayá affirmed a strategic alignment between Chilean and Argentine blueberry production windows. Chile’s season begins as Argentina’s ends, creating opportunities for extended availability rather than direct competition. He extended support to the Chilean promotional campaign, wishing it success in helping broaden category consumption.
