Chilean blueberry exports grow in quality and diversification
VU
The climate favors slow maturation and unprecedented quality.
The blueberry season in Chile is progressing with some delay compared to last year and early estimates. As of week 47, the accumulated volume shows a 28% drop compared to the same period last year and 14% less than initially projected. However, according to Andrés Armstrong, executive director of the Chilean Fruit Blueberry Committee, it is expected that harvests in the coming weeks will manage to recover these levels and match initial expectations.
Superior quality despite the delay
Armstrong stressed that, although weather conditions have delayed the ripening of the fruit, this phenomenon has had a positive effect: blueberries exported this year are reaching record quality. Up to week 47, 63% of the kilos exported correspond to new varieties, a significant growth compared to the 50% recorded at the same date last year.
