The WAO (World Avocado Organization) wants to fully exploit the booming avocado' consumption in Europe through large-scale operations in several countries.
The organization groups together a few producing countries (Brazil, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, and the United States) and has set itself the objective of self-financing actions to promote the consumption of avocados, particularly in Asia and Europe.
WAO has a communication budget of 2.5 million euros to boost sales in 5 target countries: Great Britain, France, Germany, Norway and Sweden. Similar campaigns between 2002 and 2015 in the United States have tripled the consumption of avocados.
The consumption of avocados in the European Union is expected to increase from 400 000 tonnes in 2016 to 500 000 tonnes per year by 2020.
