California is the largest producer of tomatoes in the United States with 96% of the total harvest.
According to the report of NASS (National Agricultural Statistics Service) the processors of tomatoes in California expect to sign contracts of 14 million tons of tomatoes with producers. This estimate is up by +17.6% compared to last year.
This year, the area was under contract at the end of May of 285,000 acres (115,355 hectares), or +10% compared to contract acreage last year. Some counties in California produce 80% of the total harvest of the state: Fresno, Yolo, Kings, San Joaquin, Merced, Colusa. Tomato production for the industry is estimated at 948 million USD.
