Macfrut, the Italian event dedicated to the fruit and vegetable industry
Technology, environment, seed research, fresh-cut fruit and vegetable sector. These are the main topics which will be discussed at the several meetings and workshops organised on the occasion of Macfrut, the Italian event dedicated to the fruit and vegetable industry, to be held in Cesena on October 7th-9th 2009.
In addition, on October 6th, before the official opening of the exhibition, Macfrut will host the First European Fruit Summit, during which leading international experts in the field will discuss problems, perspectives and future of the fruit market in Europe.
Within the rich conference programme of this 26th edition of Macfrut, special attention will be paid to technology, seen as an indispensable instrument for the future of the whole fruit and vegetable industry.
On Thursday 8th October (at 10 am) the “Technologies and logistics supply chain for consumers and environment” meeting will analyse how the technological development of the fruit and vegetable industry can ensure consumer food safety and environmental safeguard.
One important novelty of this year’s edition is the “Road to quality” area, where the most important international seed producers will talk with food industry clients and actors about which road should be followed to achieve quality agriculture. This special interest in the seed sector is confirmed by the “Seed research at the service of the fruit and vegetable industry: opportunities and threats” meeting (Thursday 8th
at 2.30 pm), which will also examine the “hot” topic of genetic research in agriculture.
At the same time, Macfrut confirms its attention for the fresh-cut fruit and vegetable sector by dedicating a whole exhibition pavilion to it – the “Fresh-cut and ready-to-eat fruit and vegetables showroom” – and by making it the protagonist of the final session of the event.
The “Fresh-cut: a change is needed” meeting, organised by AIIPA (Italian Association of Food Product Industries) on Friday 9th October (at 2 pm), will examine the role of the fresh-cut sector as a means for the revitalisation of the fresh produce industry in this period of world economic crisis.
Thanks to this top-level conference programme, Macfrut 2009 aims to repeat and exceed last year’s success, when it had attracted more than 21,500 professional visitors, 25% of which from abroad, with the participation of 74 foreign countries and 684 exhibitors.
