This increase reflects an more consumption, despite the crisis in the country.
Spain has increased its imports of fruits and vegetables according to figures from FEPEX.
From January to June 2012, Spain imported 1.2 million tons of fruit and vegetables, 3.3% more than during the same period in 2011. In value terms, imports fell by 13.5% to 682 million.
Vegetable imports rose 4.2% to 621,212 tons.
Most imported vegetables are potatoes: 431,659 tons, up 10%.
Fruit imports rose 2.3% to 564,510 tons. The main imported fruits are apples with a volume of 121,584 tons (+4.7%), bananas at 89,591 tons (-4.7%) and kiwis at 67,163 tons (+6.6%).
