FRESHUELVA : Retreat of strawberry surfaces but growth for other berries

Reduction in area of strawberries (-7%) but growth in raspberries (+ 6.45%) for blackberries (+ 23%) and blueberries (+ 30%).
FRESHUELVA, the association of producers and exporters of strawberries from Huelva, reported its estimates of the various plantations according to the data provided by the partner companies.
For the 2016/17 season the total area planted with red fruits in the province of Huelva is 10 030 hectares. That is an increase of 3.85% compared to the 9 658 hectares of the previous season.
For strawberries, the area reaches 5,400 hectares, a decrease of 7% compared to last year. On the other hand, the areas dedicated to raspberries increased to 1,932 hectares, an increase of 6,45% compared to last season. The area devoted to blackberries totaled 160 hectares (+ 23%) and the increase is even greater for blueberries which have 2,538 hectares or 30% more than last season.
For FRESHUELVA, these data show that the bet of diversification of cultures, initiated several years ago, is beginning to take shape.
