Pesticide residues in pepper fruits from Almería have gone down by 95% this year, according to test results released by the Provincial Association of Fruit & Vegetable Growers and Exporters in Almería (Coexphal-Faeca) this February reported by S&G.
This data is supported by German laboratories in Stuttgart and Düsseldorf, as well as by research conducted by the Spanish association.
Coexphal-Faeca Manager Mr. Juan Colomina has confirmed that “in the tests performed we haven’t found any products that exceed the maximum residue limits”.
He also describes last year’s changeover to Integrated Pest Management in Almería as “a change of direction in the use of biological pest control”. Mr. Colomina foresees the widespread implementation of IPM practices throughout Almería in the next few years, and feels that the positive results of IPM are currently improving the image of Almerian products among consumers and suppliers.
According to the Coexphal laboratory, the crops are completely clear of isofenphos-methyl, and the number of active substances in each sample has been reduced by 70%.
