A good season for strawberry growers in Silifke

80,000 tonnes were produced, 20 000 tonnes of which were exported mainly to Russia, Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, Poland and Hungary.

The season began in December with strawberries in greenhouses and very good prices. However, rains that fell from time to time during the season have made prices to vary downward.

Previously the season lasted only four months, but thanks to new technologies, it currently extends over seven months.

Thanks to new varieties and the creation of refrigerated warehouses, strawberry growers of Silifke want to export more strawberries next season.

This production is important for the region because it allows the seasonal work of some 10,000 people, mostly women.
