The red fruit sector is ready for a new season

Freshuelva announces areas of 6,105 hectares for strawberries, 3,310 hectares for blueberries, 2,070 hectares for raspberries and 145 hectares for blackberries.
Freshuelva, the Association of Strawberry Producers and Exporters of Huelva, has announced that the areas planted with red fruits for the 2020/21 season are almost identical to that of the previous season.
For the 2020/2021 season, a total area of 11,630 hectares will be planted with red fruits in the province of Huelva, which represents a slight decrease of 1.8% (11,751 hectares) compared to last year.
The area planted with strawberries reached 6,105 hectares, or only -1.8% compared to the 6,217 hectares planted with strawberries last season.
The only berry whose surface area has increased is blueberries, with a total of 3,310 hectares, or + 7.2% compared to the 3,089 hectares last season.
On the other hand, raspberries show a negative dynamic with 2,070 hectares planted, ie -10% compared to 2,300 hectares last season.
The area of blackberries remains the same as the previous season, 145 hectares.
Despite recent rains which have caused losses to raspberry and blueberry plantations in the western part of the province, the berry sector is ready for a new season.
