Grape exports from Mexico would remain stable so far in the 2022/23 season, despite the expected decrease in production, says the report from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Production would drop 3% year-on-year due to adverse weather in Sonora, the region that concentrates 90% of national production. The main grape varieties produced in Sonora are Sugraone or Superior Seedless, Flame, Red Globe and Perlette.
Zacatecas is the second largest grape-producing region, whose fruit is mainly used for the production of wines and juices. Followed by Baja California, which also allocates most of its production for winemaking. Another important region is Aguascalientes, which concentrates the production of grapes for industrial use.
