Another milestone in innovation and sustainability for the agricultural sector in Saudi Arabia.
According to local media, thanks to the actions of MEWA (Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture) and advanced techniques, the Ministry's Center for Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology has succeeded in growing various varieties of banana adapted to the country's climate.
This banana plant production is located in the Jazan region, in the extreme south-west of the country on the shores of the Red Sea.
These high-quality, disease-free seedlings, grown both in greenhouses and in open fields, mark a significant step forward for the agricultural sector. This production will significantly reduce the costs involved in importing seedlings.
MEWA has launched initiatives to plant 45 million fruit trees and 4 million lemon trees by 2030.
