In Mexico, the world number 1 country for the production and export of avocados is forecasting an increase in the 2019/20 harvest which will lead to an increase in shipments to the United States.
According to official forecasts for the 2019/20 campaign (July / June), Mexican avocado production could reach 2.26 million tonnes. Or an increase of 7.6% compared to the previous campaign. This increase in production is due to an increase of 9.3% in areas.
Mexico was the largest producer and exporter of avocados in the world in 2018, and is expected to maintain 1st place in 2019. Production volumes from January to October 2019 reached 1.83 million tonnes, or 4.3% more than in 2018. The largest supply of avocados is from October to February, an average supply from March to May and the low season from June to September.
Mexico is the largest exporter of avocados in the world and sends most of its volumes to the United States. Total Mexican exports in the 2018/19 season were 1.145 million tonnes, 10.66% more than in 2017/18. To the United States, Mexican exports in the 2018/19 season were 15.97% higher than in the previous year, and exports for the 2019/20 season are expected to continue to increase. Exports to the United States for the 2019/20 season are forecast at 1.0 million tonnes, an increase of 12.5% from the previous season.
