Consumption: More fruits but fewer vegetables

Belgians consumed more fruits and vegetables in 2017 than in the previous year. (photo gondola be)
In Belgium the average annual consumption of fruit has slightly increased (+400 gr.) And the average annual consumption of vegetables has decreased (-1kg) according to the survey conducted by the VLAM.
In 2017 the Belgian bought on average 38 kilos of vegetables, 1 kg less than in 2016. Over the year Belgium also bought 47 kilos of fruit, or 400 gr. more than the year before.
By products, tomatoes rank at the top of the list of vegetables most consumed with 5.7 kg per person. Next are carrots with 5.6 kg and onions with 4.4 kg. With regard to fruits, apples remain the most consumed fruits with 3.3 kg per person, in front of bananas.
