The Italian pear production is rising

The Italian region Emilia Romagna is the leading producing region in Europe with 486 000 tonnes of pears.
While in Europe the total production of pears is estimated at 2.14 million tonnes (-1% compared to 2016) with various variations (Belgium -7%, the Netherlands -18%), Italian production is expected to increase by 5% compared to the previous season.
According to published data from production at European level, Italy will see its pear production increase. It is estimated at 719 000 tonnes, ie + 5% compared to 2016, and close to the average for the period 2014-2016.
As for the varieties, Italian production also shows many positive signs, Abate + 12%, Kaiser + 3%, Decana + 11%, Santa Maria + 15%. Only William (-5%) and Conference (-2%) varieties will be lower.
At the European level, the supply of the Conference variety will reach -7% and for the William variety -5%, on the other hand, the supply of the Abate variety will be more than 10% higher due to the low quantities produced last year.
